He's Hot: Disturbing Texas Biker Edition

Flipping through channels in the hotel room we came across this winner; the host of "Texas Politics Biker Style". I don't believe any further commentary is required as I am sure his message is of tolerance, unity, and social progressiveness. He's also likely to be a serial killer.

Texas BBQ

Take a look at those meats! In our quest for the best BBQ in Texas we hit Iron Works BBQ right in town. It was pretty typical of the Texas BBQ we have had: brisket, sausage, ribs... accompanied by pickles & onions, a slice of white bread and some sort of potato salad or cole slaw. Definitely meats-a-plenty!

Itchy Toes?

So we were looking at this glamorous high-rise apartment building downtown in Austin and the leasing agent just couldn't seem to keep her heels on - so of course I had to snap a pic from under her desk. After I realized that if anyone caught me they might think I was trying to snap a peek at her pie, so I quickly put the cameraphone away!

The Texas Capitol Building

Of course Austin is the Capital of Texas... and the Capitol building sits majestically in the center of town.

Tortilleria!

The local supermarket chain H.E.B. has an in-house tortilla maker and every day they make freshly made tortillas! Delish!

Maria's Taco Express

So a while back Del and I saw this place on Drive-Ins, Diners & Dives called Maria's Taco Express. It's a very popular spot with the locals with killer homemade Mexican food. This is very typical of the funky types of places to eat in Austin. Needless to say those enchiladas were as good as they look...

At the Salt Lick

So one of the most touted BBQ places in Austin is called The Salt Lick. It's actually about 40 minutes outside of Austin in Driftwood, TX. All of us that met with AMD for the day were treated to a huge feast of some kickin' BBQ!

AMD Campus in Austin

This is a typical building from the AMD campus in Austin. The guy with the black backpack is one of the guys who runs Neowin.net...

Magnolia Cafe in Austin

These are a couple of typical Austin college hotties! This is at Magnolia Cafe on South Congress, a very fun and funky place with a wild decor and a menu that ranges from blueberry pancakes to enchiladas rojas!

Austin Bound

On June 23 we left for Austin! These are a couple of pics I took on/from the plane. Great views of Lake Washington and the Sound!

Olive Garden Hottie

Lisa Garza Cha Cha Cha!

Lisa was looking glamorous as ever this week on FNS. She is certainly a fan of the headband! I'm left wondering if the bob is a one-piece deal with the bob attached.

Evening at Mary's

Some sort of sandwich from Metro Market that i have disemboweled. Note the extensive array of cheeses and other sundry snacks.

The kitchen is a plethora of food and alcohol!

Mr. Perkins takes a moment from his busy schedule to glance up for the camera.

Makoa looking regal.

Mr. Perkins found a new best friend in Liz.

Mak hamming it up for the camera!

Slow news day?

Our very own T.C. Hyatt was interviewed today on King 5 news. The story was about "peddling" in Mill Creek. I'm surprised he wasn't at Azul with a margarita when he was interviewed! I don't think I've ever seen him at or near the JLS office!

**UPDATE** T.C. discovered mlo after Googling himself (surprise!). Apparently he doesn't drink margaritas.

She's Pretty

This woman has been practicing her surprised looks for weeks leading up to her appearance on The People's Court.

Now this bitch is K-K-KRAZY!

This is Mary Murphy, and she's a judge on SYTYCD. She has gone ape-shit crazy this season. Not to be outdone by her large and reflective jewelry, she hoots and squeals and shrieks like a howler monkey.

She's Pretty: Black Widow Spider Edition

Don't be fooled by the frowsy blonde. She mates and she kills...

What's with Paula Dean?

There is something immediately like-able about Paula Dean. She's like everybody's favorite neighborhood fat lady with big hair and even bigger dreams. Well I'm worried about her. As of late I see her looking like the picture above: rubbery, play-doh-esque features and a color that gives her an Oompa-Loopma-like quality. I don't know what it is but she's starting to look like a creation of Dr. Seuss or perhaps Sid & Marty Krofft.

THIS JUST IN: Lisa Garza is a HUMAN!

Lisa sheds a tear on this week's episode of FN*.  While her "TV" presentation of her potato dish seemed smart, believable, and on-point - it lasted only 15 of the required 60 seconds. She spent the remaining 45 looking dumbfounded at the camera when she realized her blunder and had nothing left to say. Thankfully her dish was tasty, and she shined during her "personal product" presentation to Martha Stewart, who enjoyed her habanero/balsamic orange marmalade (or whatever the hell it was). Martha not only seemed to enjoy the food, but also how Lisa gushed over her and expressed what an inspiration she has been to her. I'm pretty sure Martha found that to be rather tasty as well.

Lisa Channels Wilma Flintstone

Hairstyles may differ, however Food Network Star's very own Lisa Garza brings it Bedrock-style to this weeks show. She certainly does have a thing for the large bauble, embracing cartoon-like geometry from head-to-toe.

Evening at the Theatre: Avenue Q!

Del, Liz and I went and saw Avenue Q at the Paramount tonight. It was fantastic! I had listened to the soundtrack for about a year, then finally saw it in Vegas, but that was almost 2 years ago. It was great to finally share the experience with Del and Liz. It's such a fantastic show!

The Paramount, approaching dusk.

We had killer seats. Third row, dead center. I snapped this quick pic of the stage from my seat.

After the show we stopped in at Ruth's Chris for some drinks and a nibble. It really was a wonderful evening!

"The Happening" Mini-Review

Del, Liz and I saw "The Happening", as it opened today. I wrote a quick little review at Wall Street Journal in response to so much criticism:

"I certainly don't think it deserves such vehement pans, it wasn't THAT bad. I understand the genre, and while I can't say I completely see the homage to 50's camp horror, I can say I was moderately entertained. I believe this to be a case where the intent to get a message across usurped the duty to entertain. There was suspense to be certain, however there was no nuance. As horrific as the suicides were, even they became tedious. It's like watching a mystery about a killer and learning who it is in the first 15 minutes. Sure you can hang around to see it all play out, but you won't be fully surprised."

This one's for Squeakie...

She's Pretty: Indian Corn Edition

Woo-wee that's some grill. This bitch has got more grill than a Burger King and is just as greasy. Helen would refer to these as "bucket teeth". I think she had better quit getting her dental work done at the Dollar General.

It's almost Friday...

Introducing the Lovely Joyce

She may have been marked down to 50 cents, but Joyce continues her personal journey into our hearts in search of honest and wholesome Christian values - and she does it all through her music.

Joyce sends her message of modesty by holding a single red rose covering her shapeless bosom - careful not to distract from her sensible eyewear and tight curler-set. I hope the music business hasn't jaded her.

She's Pretty: Eyebrow Pencil Edition

Why do these cholas pluck out all their eyebrows then draw them back in where no eyebrow would (or should) ever be? I can't even get started on that hair because I cannot get past these scary brows. It's the Tori Spelling "surprised" look meets Snoopy.
